HOT OFF THE PRESS Regular www.waveski.info visitors may have noticed discussions that have occurred on the www.waveski.info forums recently. I was an entertained spectator on the sidelines watching as two of our registered www.waveski.info members went "toe to toe" with each other on their opinions about big wave surfing on waveskis. The fact that their discussion deteriorated into a very visual & hilarious slanging match did kind of take the attention away from the initial topic. Although, I still laugh each time I visit that topic within the forums... But now it is time to sort out the pretenders from the contenders. There will always be the arm-chair critics, the "speculators", the "theorists" and then............ there are those that are actually out there doing it and testing the boundaries and discovering the true influences upon waveski design. At the World titiles in Brazil 2004, the Brazillians were "talking up" tow-in surfing on waveskis and there seemed to be a pretty determined mind set to see it happening - well some day ! But then there are those in other parts of the world that have already been out there testing the dynamics associated with tow-in surfing on waveskis. (i.e. length of tow rope, release mechanisms from paddle shaft, timing and team work in the tow-in practice) News has come in today of none other than that crazy ass mother of a world champion, Neil Decker, taking to the seas with his good mate Simmo and discovering new elements in surfing sizeable waves on the Gold Coast Australia at an outside bombora near Southport. I spoke with both guys this afternoon who were still buzzing about the latest design efforts by Dekka and successfully testing them in sizeable surf. The Quicksilver Standup Pros were also out having their own tow-in session filmed and the film crew couldn't help but swing their cameras over to a couple of crazy waveskiers having a ball with new found speed & confidence on their waveskis. The boys are anticipating a bigger swell tomorrrow..............stay tuned ! Dekka waveskis are heading into new design territory! I also hope Trav at waveski.info doesn't mind being regarded as the new "Dekka Video *****" but he's gotta hurry up and get to the Gold Coast to be part of capturing this exciting pioneering effort in waveski surfing.
