They're back!

After years offline for various reasons, the highly infamous waveski.info forums are back, fresh, and mobile friendly. The waveski.info forums are where it all started, the Bad-Billy battles the name-calling the hair-pulling and the buried somewhere buried deep within occasional bit of useful information (and even more rare, that bit of useful information will actually be correct).

Kia-Ora! Welcome!

Started afresh

I have all the old forum content on file, but given that 1) it's going to be a pain to import it to this new structure, and 2) much of it is probably left to history, I have decided not to pull it through.

However, all the old user accounts have been brought through, so if you want to resurrect an old username, just use the password reset function with either that username or your E-mail and it will send you a password reset link so that you can reactivate the account. This also means, that unless you have access to Bad-Billy's E-mail, you won't be able to masquerade as Bad-Billy. Sorry.

Cheers...

World waveski champs Brazil

Unfortunate this event was cancelled, I hope competitors and family members who had already booked flights and accomodation will not lose to much on cancellation fees.
I was always looking forward to going to brazil but when I found out it was going to be held at praia do futuro in fortaleza I had second thoughts about going considering that it was a beach break that wasn't really known for great waves mainly known for windsurfing with the strong onshore winds that they have majority of the year. I hope with the next world champs which I think will be in SA 2014 will be held at a well known point, reef break. I know alot of people who don't want to spend the money to travel to these events to surf crappy beach breaks, maybe with the kayak, canoe federation running some of these events they need to know we need to surf waves. I think WWSA need to have a bit more input on locations.

Entries

Luckily there were only 2 official entries received... assuming that people would submit entry before committing to travel arrangements, then hopefully impacts should be minimal. Some of the points you raised may be why entries were so low, and in turn, low entry numbers may have been one of the Canoe Associations reasons for cancelling.

Welcome back John, I missed the playful banter, its great to have the forums back. I think we need to start a petition to bring back Bad Billy :-)

There's an idea

Thanks John

Great to have the forum back John. We appreciate your efforts and hard work. Miss the old days of the boys slogging it out. Bad news about Brazil, but honestly we looked at every youtube video we could find on the place and all you could hear was howling wind in the background and terrible waves. I agree with Brian, WWSA needs to investigate the locations and have more say. Just watched Amazin Africa and the waves look awesome, so 2014 should be fantastic for the sport.

I suspect that the location selection, which was contentious from the start, may have had a big impact on the eventual downfall. It is one of the warnings I would sound regarding the affiliation with Canoe associations - I know it works very well in places like South Africa and many others, but there is a risk with blanket adoption.

The forums are necessary for me... otherwise I get snowed with E-mails that I don't always know the answers to - or can't get to responding in a timely manner. There is a LOT of interest in this sport that is yet to be harnessed. Also, it has kind of got dull without them - in my mind the Facebook forums never quite cut it.

ideas

Hi john great to see the site up & running again brilliant work; hey i hope the forum cranks up to its past level too, used to be way more entertaining than the tv at night :-]], shame you cant put it all back on it was pure gold, all those old pics were too. couple of thoughts- anywhere coming to post photos? i've got the last probably 3 comps to put on for all to view, assuming theres interest?
Also WSNZ needs a substantial internet presence , it would help heaps with the sports credibility here in nz, preferably here with you or on facebook or perhaps both?. could fill it with steves comp reports and jo's newsletters for a start. Any chance of a section of the site dedicated to it & a large banner on the home page referring to it- channeling any nz interest that you mention above thru to wsnz maybe? As i recall that was how i got into becoming a goaty when i learnt on waveski.info about bad billys instructional session on the piha rip- rolled down to piha & there he was with a bunch of guys waving a chalk and blackboard around & pointing at all the places to escape drowning-fantastic stuff .
Anyway , a couple of ideas, hope i havn't put you on the spot too much. come join us at piha sometime cheers chris

In progress

Thanks Chris... I have now created a forum for NZ Waveski Surfing. Once I get content together I will add a dedicated section for the NZWSA.
Also still need to come get those pics off of you as per our pre-xmas discussion.
More to come.

Cheers...

Apologies

In removing a bunch of spam posts, I think I deleted someone else's post. Sorry about that. With regard to Tsunami, I'm not sure if anyone has heard from Tsunami Nick for some time. Word has it he may have moved to Christchurch to make quake-proof fiberglass chimneys....
